This post is for those of you  who want to spend a very special day before the ski season starts or who have friends/family coming from abroad to visit Switzerland or simply to the ones who love the fondue and the old charming trains.

The Cheese train is a full day excursion part of the Swiss Rail offer that takes place every week from Thursday to Sunday till April 30th, the old style train leaves Montreux at 10.30 in the morning and arrives after only one hour to the nice Ski resorts of Chateau D'Oex  in the Gruyere Region,  offering a spectacular view of the Alps that is very characteristic especially when snow is all around.
Once arrived in Chateau D'Oex ,visitors are taken to a very typical Chalet where they can directly experience the art of making cheese , they see live the transformation of 200 lt of milk in cheese, then  a delicious fondue lunch is served . The visit to a private museum that consists in an ancient wood carved mountain house completes the day, the train arrives in Montreux at about 5 p.m.
This excursion has a limited capacity of 36 places so it must be booked in advance. The  full day trip, all included ,costs 89 CHF for adults and 59 CHF for children from 6 till 16 years old, reductions apply if you have a train yearly pass, a daily pass or a Junior pass.
